I bought this car cheap from a friend of mine a year and 15k miles ago. It vibrated so badly that I couldn't use the mirrors. Had to fix broken tire belts, bent rims, inner drivers, brakes, suspension bushings, and put in the correct intermediate shaft carrier bearing bracket.. After all that it smoothed out a lot, but still leaked badly out of the right side of the transmission. My alternator commutator was worn down to nothing and gave up the ghost 2 weeks ago, so I decided to fix my oil leaks at the same time. When I pulled the seal I discovered the damage to the bearing. It would seem that problems with the bearing could cause the symptoms you describe, but I didn't run into anything as severe as you describe. I'm not sure if the 93 transmission is the same as my 89. If it is the same, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the shaft to check it out. You'd probably want to replace the seal, though. It's 55mm by 35mm by about 8mm thick.
