I've never had it done, but I expect it would work fine.
I'll ask a question - how much will it cost to turn the rotor? Quite frankly, it might cost a few extra $$, but I'd just go out and get a quality rebuilt alternator and slap that in. That way you pull the old one out, put the new one in, and you're done - and the car's back on the road. I'm not sure of the exact price, but I spent about $130 (after core) or so for a 115A Bosch rebuilt from Sobstory a year or two back . And I knew that the new alternator had fresh bearings.
Just a thought.
