there was an yearlier post about this. Anders answered it. Basicly the idea (like you said) is to smooth out the advance,( the sticker in the engine bay say to allow 4-5 sec for timing to change) now it all makes sense. BTW others have removed with no effect. (I won't, for the same reason)

With 18 BTDC the car feel very, very good. Before I was starting to wonder about the 165 ph rating. The awful timing setting (7 BTDC) really explains some of the problems I have been having; (red hot exhaust manifold and warping, poor MPG, poor idle, lack of boost)

Its all better, but now to change that tranny and steering rack.

Does the fun ever stop/start?!
