"Generally, BMW, Lexus and M-B marques are seen as luxury products with performance intentions, while Saab, Audi and Acura and more performance products with luxury intentions"
Funny you say this when BMW, Lexus and M-B all offer solely RWD/AWD cars (ok.. Lexus has offered a FWD car in the past) and Saab and Acura offer solely FWD cars with Audi doing AWD and FWD. Performance cars (as in a performance chassis and engine) are RWD or AWD. Or should be RWD or AWD.
And I dont think a car-maker has to choose between luxury and performance. Its not a either-or situation. It has to do with which price-bracket you want a car to slot into. I think it would be more accurate to say that the larger Lexus and BMW cars are designed to offer luxury. That is the LS400 and the 7 series. I agree that M-B cars are designed with luxury/technology first in mind. I find their lack of manual transmissions (mostly) to be a good indication of their priorities. I also find BMW's M5s which only come with 6spd manual transmissions to be indicative of BMW's sporting heritage and design. I will agree that BMW's priorities are moving towards more luxury and away from sporting (unfortunately) with their newer cars getting larger and heavier. I will stand by older Bimmers though! :)
