Possible Explanation of Jerky Acceleration...

As it seems, a number of us are having problems with jerky/unsmooth acceleration with our mid-90's 9000's. I was thinking about it, and here is something that I haven't heard anyone suggest...
All of the newer 9000's are drive-by-wire, correct? Like with most potentiometers, the connection inside gets dirty overtime, causing the resistance of the unit to become not as smooth and even. If the potentiometer connected to the gas pedal were to become dirty, this would result in a jerky voltage output, similar to the static heard on a radio with an old volume potentiometer. This jerky/staticy output could be causing the poor acceleration curves many of us have been experiencing.
With that said, does this make sense? Has anyone looked into this further? Is it easy to clean? Is it worth trying?
From other posts, it looks like people have tried MANY things to fix their acceleration problems (DI, plugs, vacuum lines, air filters, O2 sensors, etc) with little or no success.
What do you think??
