I myself bought an 88 9000T about 5 years ago with about 150,000 miles on it. Here are the things I have had to have fixed: did the rings, replaced a/c compressor, automatic locks stopped working, at least two windows had to have motors/actuators replaced, high pressure hose for steering fluid had to be replaced, slave cylinder had to be replaced, clutch plate was worn and had to be replaced, several oil seals had to be replaced (now it only burns about 1 qt/3000 miles), had it painted ($500 at Maco). Replaced door gaskett above doors... hatchback shocks had to be replaced. Air conditioning hoses had to be replaced. Blower motor, heater core and cabin air filter were all replaced at the same time. Directional servos that change air direction from defrost to heat had to be replaced. Trip computer display has not worked for a long time, I do not want to bother with fixing it. I put on a new muffler. I think that is about it. Right now I have a broken front headlight which must be replaced and the right front window is acting funny and I probably need to fix it before it breaks completely. Oh yeah, and there was a little rubber coupler that connected the shift lever to a shift rod that had to be replaced. Now don't get me wrong - I love this car! It is a great ride, best driving car I have ever owned - but you might be prepared for some issues. By the way, I now have about 220,000 miles on it and it is still running strong. It is the first car I have ever given a name to - I call it the "red rocket". My kids hate it cause it is old, but I love it.
