No, worst case scenario is a cracked block or head. Head gasket is not serious, just a PITA. If you can do it yourself, it's not even very expensive.
"Hydrolocking" isn't something you can watch for signs of. It would be the worst case. If your leak became massive and suddenly filled a cylinder as it started it's compression stroke, you could, in theory, destroy a rod or the crankshaft. A liquid is not compressable to anywhere near the same amount as a gas, therefore the piston would stop (lock) because it couldn't compress the fluid, instantly locking your engine.
This is an INCREADABLY remote possibility.
PS sometimes small leaks can be very hard to find, never making it to the driveway. if you have access to a radiator/coolant system pressure tester, you can pressurize the system overnite and see if the pressure bleeds down, and inspeck for any antifreeze leaks.
