Fuel pump question

My car died yesterday. It would turn over but no go. I took the plugs out today and turned the car over. No gas smell. Removed fuel pump and reconnected it and turned the car over. No noise or vibration from the pump. Does this mean the pump is dead? Is there another way to test it?
Is there a relay which could have gone? The fuse is fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff M.
