I towed a Laser with my '74 99. The only clutch problem I had was when the oil seal sprung a leak. New clutch, new seal.

I'm now towing the Laser plus a Flying Scot which weighs in at 1200# or so with trailer. That is a twice a year tow from Winter to Summer grounds and back. Not much of a strain. I towed a small pop-up camper with my '87 and it handled fine.

I'm sure a trailer, esp one over 1000# is tough on the clutch. However I got 180k on the '87 clutch despite a fair amount of towing use. Guess I'll watch the use in 5th gear.

Still doing any sailing? I've raced big boats-Hobie 33 and Abbott 33 for the past 15yrs or so. Also mixed in a brief stint in a 505-real bruiser that boat. Am trying to get the wife and 6yr old comfortable by sailing the Scot. Pretty fun boat for such a stable heavy platform! Must be getting old, as I'm looking a crusing boats now....
