Basically, a non-airbag SAAB steering wheel will fit the splines on the steering column, but it will give a unsightly mismatch with the steering column housing. This is because the steering columns are actually different for the airbag and non-airbag equipped cars. There is the matter of the contact for the horn, which in the airbag equipped car is part of the "clock spring" in the steering column. The non-airbag horn contact is a sliding ring arrangement and the distances of the columns are different to accomodate the two setups.
The SRS light will constantly blink if the airbag is removed. You can remove the light, disconnect the orange SRS computer that is mounted to the firewall behind the glove box, or tape over the light (or live with the blinking).
The early non-airbag columns could be also adjusted closer or farther from the dirver. The early airbag steering columns could not.
If you want to do this right, replace the entire steering column and its mounting bracket from a non-airbag equipped car. Replacing the steering column assembly will require removing the dash for access and the transfer of your keyed ignition switch from your orignial column to the replacement.
Then remove the SRS computer completely since you will have rendered it useless in the process. Removal of the SRS computer will turn off the dash light.
