3 electronic questions !

Hi Folks,
This posting as about my 93 Aero.
I have several things I would like to deal with, and am
hoping that someone else here has done these things and
would be willing to share the info I need, here goes:
1.
My clock and voltage/temp/etc. readouts suddenly became
so dim as to be unreadable - I know these are controlled
by a photocell in the clock gadget (EDU ?), so I borrowed
the analog clock from my '92, and they brightened right up.
The question: Does anyone know what the discrete component
that is the photocell is by number or the like ?
To get a replacement, and solder it in would be much less
costly and easier than replacing that whole unit..
2.
I am told that the 'driver's side airbag' is ignited by the
equivalent of a small solid fuel jet motor of the kind the
model rocketeers use, and that the ignitor's resistance is
monitored as reflected in the SRS idiot light.
I would like to know if anyone has successfully replaced
this with a resistor of equal value, thereby disconnecting
the nasty thing and NOT having a warning light - and if so,
would you share the values (ohms/watts) of the resistor
they used for this.
3.
The 'shift up' light is a constant annoyance - is there a
quick and dirty way to disconnect it without huring the
other electronics in the car ?
Thanks in advance for any education !
