The general consensus is that a SAAB advertized on Saabnet has been owned and loved by an enthusiast, and is consequently in better condition and is generally a better car than the average, hence it is worth a bit more. I think that this is true and fair. If you value owning a car with minimal cosmetic wear and tear (door dings, paint chips, etc.), then the premium you pay for a typical car on Saabnet is justified, IMHO. As a major bonus, you also get a Saab that got the maintenance that it deserves and needs, so you really are quite possibly getting better value. If I was paying that premium, I would want the car to be in really good shape, and have a nice sheaf of papers to prove the maintenance. This is one of the reasons why 10 year old 900s are on here with asking prices close to 5 figures. On the subject of the good ole' 9000, it appears that values have kind of plummeted in the last 6 months or so... probably because there is now a good supply of nice used/off lease 9-5s becoming available, and even the newest 9000 is 5 years old. The danger with a 9000 of 8-10 years or older is that it is very easy to quickly spend much more on maintenance than the car could ever be worth. If you really enjoy the car and plan on keeping it, this may not be such a big issue, but when you are one year and $7,000 into a car that you would be lucky to sell for $3,000, you may find it difficult to love the car. There is certainly more demand on the two coasts, so if there is no dealer or indy support, this would make a SAAB less appealing. As a source of used car prices, I have always found NADA http://www.nada.com to be the most realistic, certainly for the cars I've owned/considered owning in New England. Assuming your car is in really good condition, there likely is a buyer on Saabnet who will appreciate that your car is worth more than the average.
