To be honest, I wouldn't dare to say if or not to use Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: part 2, georgev, Tue, 13 May 2003 14:00:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
013 instead of a 006 relay. I would have to study a lot of wiring diagrams to be able to answer in a professional way.
On a hunch, without leaving any warranty or guarantees. It might work with a 013 instead of 006, but I would never put a 006 in instead of a 013.
When I have a question/problem like that myself, I stop and think about that the car manufacturer probably knows a LOT more than me or an aftermarket supplier about the parts that they install. And that usually gives me the answer not to mess around to much.
The reason why the manufacturer install a relay with a diode in that position is that they don't want current to flow backwards into the circuit when another application is turned on.
Some circuits have power coming in both directions depending on different circumstances, and the diode is there to stop the flow of power in one direction.
It could hurt sensitive computer components if unlucky.
On some occasions, the aftermarket industry doesn't do as much research as the manufacturer did, about a part. They just look at the shape and color and determine that this part will fit and wide varity of brands.
Brake pads is another group, where the same pad is sold to fit many different cars, even though the manufacturer have maybe spend millions of dollars to perfect a pad for each car.
Why do you need to replace the relay in the first place, those 006 or 013 is almost bullet proof. You might have another problem with the cooling fan or A/C comp?
Hope this helps a little at least in your decision.
