I can't believe the incompetence of this.
Last week I ordered tires online from one of the big Internet retailers. It worked great. I picked from a wide range of tires for my Aero, paid a good price, and they arrived a few days later. No problem. Meantime, I stopped at my local service station and asked if I could drop-ship them the tires and would they mount them. Sure, no problem, good price on that also.
Two days ago the tires arrived and yesterday I dropped the car at the station for the day for them to be balanced and mounted. Picked up the car last night in the dark, paid for the work, went home.
This morning, in the daylight, I see what a ludicrously bad job they did! Each of the four alloy wheels, previously spotless, now has not one, but three little weights tacked onto it. In some cases, they are 180 deg. opposite one another! There’s a 50-gram weight on one side of the wheel and two 15-gram weights directly opposite it. WTF! To top it off, each of the four wheels now has multiple gouges in it. Two have marks so deep, they clearly were hit with something metal or dropped on something metal. The others have various little marks where it looks like a weight was hammered on and then pulled off to be moved to another place. All of these marks are clear through the clear coat and deep into the alloy.
I am so f**king pissed off about this, I don’t know what to do. Granted the car is not new, but I want it to look as best possible and I have always taken very good care of it. The reason I know each of these new marks on the wheels is that I wash the car by hand and I know what condition they were in.
So, some questions:
- Am I right that it typically should take just one wheel weight to balance a tire?
- On nice alloy wheels like this, aren’t these weights typically affixed somewhere on the back or inside of the wheel where they can’t be seen?
Finally, what can I do now? Is it possible to polish and re-coat these wheels? Do I have cause to take the service station to small claims court? Should I just chalk it up?
Thanks in advance if you offer a suggestion. Sorry for raving on.
