Rear brake problem

I was changing the pads and rotors today on my 95CSE and ran into a problem i didn't expect. this is the first time I've changed the pads on this car, but i had done it many times on my 88 9kT and the procedures seem to be identical. When I got to the rear left brake I tried to back off the calipers with the 4mm hex screw but the damn thing (the screw) just came all of the way out with the socket wrench. i pushed it back in but it wouldn't turn when it was pushed all the way in. When I pulled it out again I noticed that it seemed like the screw head had been rounded off by a previous attempt at this. it seems that the mechanism to back off the brake pads has seized and a mechanic had tried to force it, rounding off the screw head.
So after all this my question reallly is whether there is an laternative method of opening up the calipers so i can get my new pads and rotors into them, or am I going to have to get a new caliper?
