another “car won’t start” query:
visiting friends a long way from home, had my ’92 9kt (109k miles) parked for about 5 days. crank her last Friday, backing out of a driveway neutral coasting on a modestly graded hill. had throw into 1st gear to straighten out going down the driveway, i got a good rev and then the engine died. i let her sit a minute: the engine would crank and i’d get an idle barely alive, barely above zero. i could floor the accelerator for days and get no response. still idled barely alive. after the next couple of attempts, i stop getting the idle. the engine would crank, fire, and then die a second later. now it turns, but that’s it. nothing catches. (apologize for inexact terminology).
no tcs cntrl lights involved.
does the progressive degradation of how much i got out of the engine help pinpoint the issue? the hoses around the intake manifold appear fine, no blown fuses. likely appeared a throttle body issue at first, or valve, with fuel pressure, etc. systems a distant third (fourth? ECU? DI? AMM?). the nearest saabtech indy or dealer is a 200 mile tow for which i will likely throw down large tomorrow. my saabtech back home, generous with pro bono advice via long distance cell phone, wanted me to fashion a way to bypass the bypass valve, but my DIY doesn’t go beyond oil/filter changes unless i’m coached through really well (and no saab books in this town i’m stuck in). any ideas, while the ’92 stays parked at least another day?
