I'm finally fed up with the crappy sound and partially broken amplifier in my '95 Aero, so I'm putting in a new system.
I want to build my own front component set. I already have some very nice MBQuart MusiComp crossovers from a 4" component set that somebody gave me, so I want to use them if possible. I have built my own crossovers before, but it's hard to resist using professionally done equipment when it's free. I'd also use the tweeters and woofers that came with the crossovers, but I hate titanium tweeters and the woofers are burned out (that's why I got them for free). For replacement speakers, I've been looking at the stuff availible on Madisound, but I just don't know enough about any of those companies to tell what's best.
I have heard very good things about the Peerless Autosound speakers, and the 4" ones look good at just over $20 each. What I really need are some decent silk tweeters. My one concern is, however, that for the crossovers I have to work properly, the new tweeter needs to be similar to the old one:
Ohms: 6
Freq. Resp.: 920 - 40k
Sens: 86
DC R: 5.3
Fs: 1650
Qms: 1.91
Qes: 2.66
Qts: 1.11
Prms: 80
Anyone know how critical it is to match them? The crossovers do have attenuation settings, so it would be easy to match volume, but I'm worried about the crossover point matching up properly. If this is going to be too big a deal, I'll either use the titanium Quarts or build new crossovers. Additionally, I'm not sure if most of the tweeters on Madisound would fit in the stock tweeter location; they look much bigger. What have other people successfully installed? I'd appreciate any brand or model suggestions.
