PS Pump bracket snaps!

Crap! The bracket that the steering pump, alternator and serp idler pulley mount to broke off above the alternator mounting point leaving the idler pulley dangling in the mix. I'm damn lucky it didn't pop out of the way and take the belt with it; maybe worse!
I don't remember ever reading about anyone else having a similar problem, so I wonder what might have caused this? All the pulleys turn freely, and I replaced the tensioner pulley and idler pulley when I did the Valve Job a while ago. I did think that the tensioner was extremely difficult to compress back then, but thought it was normal from what I had read here. I'm now wondering if it is too stiff and placing undue stress on the idler. (The belt did have a reasonable amount of "give" to it, so I didn't think it was a problem.)
Have any experienced mechanics seen regular (or occassional) failures like this? I want to look for a recycled part, but don't want to risk getting another one that has been stressed and likely to fail. I doubt this part is available from anyone but SAAB or a recycle yard. Any other suggestions or insights would be appreciated!
TIA, folks!
