Eric is right on with his info but let me add in one thing...

If it just started clicking within the last few days then you could luck out. Pull the wheel check the outer cv. If it is just that the boot tore or released and the grease escaped the cv might click but MAY still be ok. Sometimes replacing the boot and filling it with new grease will fix or at least greatly delay the need for repair...

The boot and grease are fairly inexpensive and the labor is minor. Repair would run around $25 and a few hours. Try eeuroparts.com. But, keep in mind the full repair is not too unreasonable either. DIY for $150 and 3 to 4 hours.

One more thing. As far as saftey goes, if you were on the freeway doing 70 and your cv joint went (not likely to go while going straight) you could loose control of your vehical. Probobly would not happen but just keep it in mind....
