Interestring.. if your Coupler "broke" you could also have dificulties getting 5th/reverse.. 3rd/4th becuase there is no rotative motion, may still be workable.
You could try using a couple of "largish" sized Zap Straps on either end of yer Broken Coupler.. to tie it securely together again.. You can do this yourself simply by reaching down to the coupler and installing/pulling tight the Zap Straps.. not difficult, should take 5 mins tops.
May not be a 100% Fix.. but certainly 90 % and more than 'good enough' till you get a proper repair lined up.... besides your shifting feel will improve with Straps on even a New Coupler.. as they are way too 'Rubbery'.
