The thermostat is a wear item, and should be replaced every two to three years. Replace the thermostat about the same time as you should flush the coolant and flush the brake fluid.
Yeah, I know - most people don't flush coolant and brake fluid every two years, and many thermostats have been in the car since they left Trollhattan. Very few engines or brake systems die at 60K due to lack of maintenance - it's the 100K-200K range where lack of early maintenance shows up.
All is not lost. Replace that thermostat!
The stock thermostat is 89C. This gives really good heat in the winter, and is fine for most locations in summer. Since the 9000 likes to run hot, many folks (myself included) run 82C thermostats. The car will run slightly cooler in summer, assuming the rest of the cooling system is in good shape. The drawback is slightly less maximum heat in winter. You live in Colorado (I assume that's the CO). If you regularly drive around in temperatures well below 0 F, then stick with the 89. But if it rarely goes that low, go with the 82C. I live in central Connecticut, and I still get plenty of heat on 0 F mornings. I think the 89 really pays off on those lovely Swedish -15F days.
When it comes to a thermostat, you've got the choice of OEM or OEM. When it comes to thermostats, I always stick with dealer supplied ones. I've had bad luck with aftermarket units. Replacing a thermostat isn't hard, but it's not something I like to do twice, and the price difference between OEM and aftermarket is only a few bucks. Just plain not worth it in my opinion.
