AC System Lubrication Question

Hi-

Last year I had my AC serviced by a reputable local mechanic that services Saab/Volvos. He drained the system and recharged it. After he finished it almost seemed like it was worse than before and there was a slight rattle from the compressor. (I communicated this to him, but didn't follow up because it DID work well enough for a Maine summer)

Someone on this board mentioned that he may not have lubricated the system properly. I am taking the car back to him tomorrow and was curious what info I should have to be prepared with questions. Should he lubricate the system? Was any lasting damage possibly done? Any other ideas? He is a great guy and very knowledgeable and honest, but we all can't know everything.
