there's a seal behind the slave cylinder that usually degrades before the actual slave does. Was this replaced when the new transmission was put in? If you get the leaking fluid on your hands and leave it there and it starts to feel warm after 5-10 minutes then it is probably hydraulic fluid (and thus a hydraulic leak). I don't think motor oil is as caustic as brake fluid...
Another thing to check is the line running from the master to the slave cylinder. With age these can leak too.
Sorry, I know nothing about the innards of the 5spd.
