Well first of all, congratulations on doing it yourself - that $250 for a used pump was a ripoff. And yes, installing used pumps is not a great idea in general.
As to your question, there's *probably* not anything in the car that's causing the pumps to fail, although it would be a good idea to check fuel pressure just to be sure.
The real question is: are you sure it's the pump? It's quite possible that there's an electrical connector or relay that's failing at high temperatures. The trick here would be to get the car into a state where it's failed, then use a voltmeter to check for voltage at the pump when cranking. If there's good voltage *at the pump terminals* then you get to blame the pump. If there's not, problem lies elsewhere.
Reason I say this is that while used pumps are not something you want to depend on, it's a little extreme that two would fail in a week and a half!
