SRS system - linked to fuel and temp gauge

I posted this message on the "Performance" board, but it seems more appropriate for this one.
My 1995 "Super CS"(cross between CS and CSE)has been and still is a great car. Few problems and even fewer that my local mechanic can't handle. Saab dealers at least 1 and 1/2 hours away from our Boone, NC location. The problem this time is that my fuel and temp gauge suddenly went dead and SRS light came on and stays on. Mechanic traced problem to relationship between SRS system and gauges' electrical linkage - go figure!! - but he doesn't have diagnostic or other tools to fix the problem. I'm getting ready to sell the car even though I still love it because my mechanical problems are forcing me to buy an automatic (hip hurts when using clutch) but have been told I'll be lucky to get $6,000 for it. I don't want to drive 3 hours roundtrip - sit for 6 and get an estimate that's more than half the value of the car.
I can still tell how many miles worth of gas I have by using the "info" button.
Were there any recalls that apply to this problem? I'm the original owner, so should have been contacted. Is this an easy and inexpensive (hah) fix?
I appreciate any advice/suggestions/similar experience story you can share.
