I'll second John's suggestion to check the connector.
I've had quite a bit of experience both with electronics and fixing cars. And I'm gonna guess that maybe 20% of the time when a problem is fixed by replacing an electrical component, the original component was fine. The problem gets fixed by un- and re-plugging the connector, thus cleaning off corrosion, moving loose parts, etc. And likewise, sometimes a problem can be *created* simply by unplugging something and plugging it back in again.
Although Gene's crank sensor suggestion is quite possible, the first thing I'd do is unplug the connector to the DI and examine the contacts closely. Make sure they're not bent or pushed back, and that they're closed enough to make tight contact with the pin in the mating connector. If you find a problem, you can probably fix it for zero dollars which is always nice!
