You can also check the other posts on the bb for info if you are not getting answer on your question. Fuel problem / no start related topics are almost every day here... Some days the bb is so busy that someone's question is "drowned",,,
Your problem might be caused by so many smaller and bigger things that perhaps you could specify what have you checked and what has been already done?
Have you definetly diagnosed the problem on the fuel pump? How?
Anyway the symptoms you describe fit very well to a fuel pump that is close to reaching the end of lifespan. Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't. A smack on the head of the pump may start it. (Pump accessible by removing the floor of trunk).
Some models of Bosch pump have a feeder pump. If you encounter problems with half empty / empty tank most probably feeder pump is shot. There might be a tendancy that feeder pumps don't last as long as the main pump. You can test the feeder by disconnecting / connecting the power supply wires @trunk.
You can quick check the pump by connecting wires at the fuse box for example check my post last Friday: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9000/index.html?bID=155522
Other thing that may cause intermittent problems is fuel pump relay. It may have some internal problems or it may not receive the signal from ECU. Check.
ECU doesn't activate the relay if it doen't get the engine turning signal from CPS (do a seach on the BB for this).
If you are not very certain that the fuel pump doesn't start when you have problems then it could be your DI cassette (if you have any). etc.
There are also descriptions (for example no-start troubleshooting flowchart) and further docs on the Great townsend site (check the sponsors).
