It's the red metal casette that's on top of the engine, with a big electrical plug. It's responsible for the ignition. The engine control unit (ECU) also uses the DI and spark plugs to measure ionisation in the combustion chamber, and from that it can tell when pre detonation occurs. However if the plugs are worn or the DI is bad, it might think pre detonation is occuring even when it's not, and lower boost accordingly....
