DI back-fitting question

I have the DI that was in my 91 9kT, the DI that was subsequently replaced to "fix" what later turned out to be a faulty crank angle sensor. It was the original-model unit, with the long pigtail.
I now have a 98 9kT which is experiencing some minor missing under acceleration. I'd like to swap in the old, spare DI to see if there's any improvement with it in place.
MY QUESTION: does anyone know whether the fitting on the old-style unit will simply clip onto the "extension cord" (as I think of the added piece I had to ppay for my 91 when a later-style "short tail" DI was put in)?
Any wisdom much appreciated!
