enough residual oil film to run the thing for a few hundred turns or so and by then the oil is flowing. One of my Grandmothers used to start her car with foot on the floor! Those old Chryslers would float the valves each time it started. Couldn't convice her otherwise. Dad and I just assumed painful expressions at what we new was happening in the engine.

He also liked to prefill the filter when the canister style filters came out. We had a couple of Caterpillar's which started by a small gasoline twin cylinder starting engine and there he would engage them and wait for the big engine to show good oil press. and then engage the compression and fuel levers. Just fill what you can and your giving it a big headstart.
