Like Yaofeng says, it's a very difficult area to reach because one is always leaning over the fender and reaching - my back feels its' age on these type jobs. It may be easier if the car was put on a lift and approached from underneath, but I'm not certain about this. Anyway, IIRC, what's definitely needed for this job is a long extension for the socket to remove one of the nuts that holds the starter onto the stud - I don't remember, off-hand, what the size of the nuts are but 16 or 18 mm seems to sound in the ballpark.
