That's exactly how I just did it last weekend! Had a Torx screw that the previous monkey stripped out and I couldn't get enough of a bite with a Torx driver. I went to Baxter Auto parts and picked up the impact driver and a Torx bit ($12 and $19). Two hits and the screw came loose enough to remove.
FYI, This screw doesn't even need to be on the rotor, let alone torqued down so much that it would get stripped.
