OK that is a big item. You may want to see if the transistor dimmer module is gone also. Book lists this as being on the opposite side as the driver under the facia behind the knee shield on the RT side of a LHD car. Drawing shows a square metal plate w/3 mounting holes and a connector on a side. There should only be a transistor mounted for heat radiation. It has the following wires going to it in my 93 book: #840 Gn 1.5mm2, #839 Ye 0.5mm2, #841 Bn/Wh 1.5mm2 See anything of that?
Look in under dash and thru hole. The module (gotta get a junk yard and get one) hopefully wasn't just slashed out of there. There should be a connector with the aforementioned wires on 10, 6, and 3 respectfully. 3 also has a Bn 0.75mm2 wire off of it, 5 is a 61R Bn/Wh 0.75mm2, 2 has #598 Bn 0.75mm2, 9 has #479 Bn/Wh 0.5mm2(these connector positions from 5 to 9 are from same output point inside), Grd comes in on #1 pin with a #215H Bk 0.75mm2, and juice comes in on the #7 pin on a #816 Gn 1.5mm2 wire.
Sounds as if the PO jury rigged it maybe. Let us know. The wheel dimmer will fail if cycled heavily over the car's life so it is not uncommon to have some troubles with it. Check site sponsors for a used / new one (sit down for the new one's $$) Let us know , GL
