installed on most turbo'd models between '92->'94. By '95 it had a driver on/off switch. Traction control limits wheelspin either via the ABS or throttle control (or both) to minimize free wheelspin on slippery surfaces. When it works it works well. But there are electrical, vacuum, electronic components that make TCS function properly and the system is integrated with the ABS and ETS (electronic throttle system, or drive-by-wire). TCS system is also overzealous so anytime it "thinks" there's a system/component failure it goes into what's known as limp-home mode (LHM), where you're off the ETS and throttle is controlled manually via a backup cable, severly limiting top speed since when you're in LHM the engine computer cuts back on the turbo boost.
TCS's LHM is a pain to deal with and although it won't strand you, it can make your life difficult. In some situations going into LHM may be dangerous if you're on a freeway.
If you do a search on TCS, limp-home mode on this board you'll find LOTS of threads (and woes). However TCS if maintained properly and religiously, can be virtually problem free and be of benefit (as intended by Saab).
Good luck !
