Usually a flex plate cracks due to misalignment (or position) of the converter and flywheel. This can be axially, radially, or angular (shafts not parrallel). This can be tough to solve, usually requiring very close examination and measurements of the flywheel, flywheel housing, torque converter, and torque converter housing. A little to much flexing and the plate is in trouble.
