This weekend, I finally painted the green front passenger side door of my maroon 94cs. It the door Vivian, my 18 year old daughter, damaged backing up the car on my driveway with the door open first months after she get her licence. I replaced the door soon after but it was green. The body shop wanted $600 and change and I am just not willing to spend that just for repaint.
Got the spary paint from Pepboys. Ended up using seven 6 ounce cans. ColorCote 8137 does match pretty well with the faded maroon.
I started early Saturday. Took the inside door panel off. Removed all platic and metal trims and door handle. Rolled down the window to get ready for spray paint. The only mishap was during removal of the plastic lock tabs for the rubber mud guard on the bottom of the door, two tabs got damaged.
The only problem after sanding it down with 600 grits sand paper following painting is the door has a not as shiny look as the rest of the car. Should I take all trims off next weekend and apply clear coat spray? Now that I have had the experience stripping the door down to basically bare metal, it would be easy the second time around.
