Knock sensor question

Well I'm still working on my '92 9k with tcs and automatic. I'm still stuck in base boost. One of the shops I tried noticed that the knock sensor was not sending a signal to the di/apc ecu. They did swap in another ecu and still no signal and still in base boost. I disconnected the knock sensor and assumed I would see an error of either the cel or one via tech2. No such errors were produced.
My question to the group is should there be an error generated if the sensor is disconnected?
Thanks
