ABS. Query on connectors and their replacement

Greetings all,
After having sorted out the problems caused by a very dirty toothed wheel and grease-laden sensor, I decided to have a good look at all the bits of the ABS system on my '93 9k CD. Under the cover of the false bulkhead at the back of the engine bay there are connectors for the wires from the wheel-sensors to the leads to the ECU. One of the connectors I found to have suffered at the hands of an Epsilon Semi-Moron who had obviously been unable to figure out the simple latching mechanism and had simply cut it all away. I found the connector shrouded in sticky-tape which I removed. The Anti-Lock light came on straight away. If I wiggle the connector, I can get the light to disappear on re-start. Bumps in the road bring it on again, but it'll go away again after another re-start. So, bad connection, intermittent in nature, right at THAT connector.
Can I replace the connector with some other form of new and more permanent connection? Does the shielding around the sensor wire have to be maintained?
Any advice will be most gratefully received.
Steve Brown
