and this is normal when the rubber dust / water protection seal fails, especially on non ABS...
The piston / cylinder in the caliper gets rusted and thus piston is not anymore retracting. If you are driving on the roads that are salted in the winter time and/or braking always quite "lightly" the whole brake gets stuck and you have problems when you need to stop quickly. If one of the brakes is out then car starts to drive the driver...
There are several levels of cure:
1) Move several times & carefully the piston in and out by using the c-clamp and brake pedal... BUT be careful not to fully press the piston out! For example use the old pads to prevent full extraction of piston. If piston gets out you can easily press it back,,, but there is always a risk of breaking the seals...
2) Get the caliper out of car, slightly re-polish (with sand paper) the surfaces on the piston and cylinder. Reassemble with new gaskets and special brake/rubber grease.
3) Get new piston (sold separately) and r&r as above.
All the cases: Also I'd recommend that you change the bleeding screw,,,
The sticking in the rear brakes is even more common,,, light load and light breaking gives the rear brakes virtually no work,,, and piston sticks...
The cheapest preventive maintenance on this "feature" is to (when you have possibility) brake HARD (quick stop)... make that ABS bang, bang ,bang,,, or non-ABS almost to lock the wheel(s) - and remember to use the hand brake every now and then.
