Your wisdom needed: 5-speed shifting questions

I'm getting used to my '96 9000 CSE (91K miles). What a great machine. I've noticed two things in the manual trans.
When I shift from second to third, I often get a slight grind if I make the shift too quickly or if I do it under more than moderate acceleration. If I shift slowly it is not an issue. Down shifting from 4th to 3rd is fine. I do notice that the clutch pedal must be all the way down for all shifts, but the clutch is fine otherwise: nice and firm, excellent engagement. (Clutch in te 9K has a much shorter throw tham my C900, and I rarely used the full travel in the 900 and that clutch has over 100K on it and works fine.
The other question is about going into 5th. It engages fine, but I have to consciously push the shifter to the right and forward to get it in, otherwise it goes into 3rd. But when this happens 3rd does not grind.
I'm thinking (hoping) it's a linkage issue rather than me getting ahead of the synchronizers, but would love some input. I have a warranty on the car, so I can get whatever it needs done, but I want to get educated before I take it in for a professional look.
TIA.
Noel
