Hey guys,
Driving from DC to Cary, NC Friday night my '95 9000 Aero 5sp developed a new, worrisome sound. Coasting off the interstate, I heard a hum that developed into a distinct ticking directly associated with wheel speed. It's pretty much indescernable below 35 mph, a ticking from 35 to 55-60, and a thrum-thrum-thrum at 70 and above. No real change from being in gear to being out of gear, and no real change in gear when accelerating (loading the tranny) to coasting. My car has 150,000 miles, the tranny is a rebuilt Erickson installed approximately 355 days ago (1-year warranty about to expire), and was recently scraped hard on the right rear corner by a beer delivery truck (stressed the wheel bearing?).
I raised the front of the car in the hotel parking and checked the front - no obvious problems.
I'm hoping it's a wheel bearing and not the tranny. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Chris
