97cs Start Problem - Electrical Posted by Gerry [Email] (#1840) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gerry) on Fri, 26 Sep 2003 08:39:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Have a worrying start problem. Last night it suddenly refused to start, just stone dead (except I heard some "clicks" from possibly the fuse-box, but it could have been my cellular-phone housing too). Could not even get a light on the instrument console. Thought it was the battery, although the interior light seemed to be OK. Was stuck.
Suddenly was reading my manual, with the key in the "on" position, when all the lights (console and head-lights), fans, etc came on. So I turned the ignition switch to try it, and all went dead again. About 5 minutes later, the same thing happened, and this time I could start it up. Then when I parked it at home, got out and used the remote to lock it, at first it refused to lock up, for maybe 10-20 seconds. Then it finally locked. This morning no sign of a problem - so far (the day is young, and so is the weekend !).
Only "warning" I got was mid-week when my wiper switch was momentarily on the blink, they would not turn off no matter what the switch position. Then suddenly that too was resolved. Maybe once before (weeeks ago) I thought my ignition switch was showing some hesitancy (and I mean the switch, not the starter).
So is this an ignition switch problem, or some strange alarm malfunction, or an electrical "disease" progressively getting worse ??
Any help most welcome, could not get car in for repair today, must sweat over weekend. Thanks in advance.
