Had the same symptoms:
- Reverse starting grinding once in a while
- Then it got hard to get into first
- Now its near impossible to get into any gear from standstill when the car is on (must switch off, select, switch on... or double-clutch before stopping)
Concensus - the clutch isnt disengaging. In the process of a complete clutch system overhaul. I would suggest the following in order:
- Check pedal linkage. The hole tends to get worn out into an ellipse allowing the pedal to move without compressing the master. New pedal or some other DIY fix will solve that (drill it out to a larger hole maybe?)
- Bleed the clutch lines.
- Rebuild Master & bleed. Its cheap to do and might work for you. If the slave is old, a newer master might accelerate slave failure though.
- Check flex-hose for expansion. Mine expands some when you press on the clutch. Replace as necessary & bleed.
If you still have problems, then welcome to my world. Time for a new slave. And while you are at it - do a new release bearing and selector bushing at least. If not a disc and plate too.
