As others have said, check out Quasi's comments on buying a 9000. He's a bit hard on automatic tranny cars, but his points are good.

Issues -
V6 - Timing belt must be replaced on the order of every 30K miles. If you don't know the last time it was done, assume it needs it now.
Find out the last time the thermostat was replaced. Important in any car, but since it's harder in the V6, less likely to be done.

Generic V6 - heater core. The 9000 heater core tends to leak over time. Warm up the car, turn the vent to DEFROST, kick on the fan, and sniff the vents. If you smell warm coolant, suspect the heater core is leaking. The major issue with the heater core is the labor involved. Expect $600-$900 for parts and labor, depending on how much else you do in there.
As to other things "In There" - make sure the heat works, and shuts off, too. Make sure the blower motor changes speeds, and sounds smooth. The heater flap and blower motor are all in the area of the heater core, and if one needs replacement, you might as well do all of them (the $900 number).

Of course, make sure the AC works. New AC compressors ain't cheap.

Autobox - you don't say how this one is equipped. The 9K autobox isn't the strongest link - they tend to last around 80-120K miles. Some longer, some less. If an automatic, I'd guess this car has had its replaced at least once. If the tranny has 80K miles on it, assume it may need replacement, and build that into the price (about $2500 for a rebuilt, installed). If the tranny lasts longer, you're in good shape. The tranny should shift VERY smoothly - any harsh shifts, pauses between gears, etc, is a bad sign.

The 9000 is a newer car than the 900, and more upscale. That usually means more electronics. Check out all the electronics - fans, lights, windows, locks, seats, ACC, etc. You want to know if any of the electrics are out.
