So I have spent all day cleaning my car and was headed out to get some leather care stuff when I was driving about 40 mph easy and smooth when I heard a loud sudden grinding sound coming from the left axle/ tranny side. Pulled over and inspected the car nothing was to be seen wrong. I got a tow back to my house and pulled apart the left side thinking that I broke the axle, Inspecting it and pulling off the CV boot everything seemed fine. I had the car on blocks and put it into reverse had someone slowly let off the clutch inspecting the CV joint I could hear again that loud grinding/snapping sound behind the CV joint inside the tranny. It seems that the right wheel does get power and seems to be unaffected "I was able to pullover and park after I had originally herd the sound no problem " Can anyone help me I had a mechanic friend say something about a possible problem with the differential can any body throw out some suggestions?
