Mine has failed twice. The first time it was the handle assembly. Door would lock and unlock but wouldn't open. Mine is an '88 with a manual release. Yours probably opens only with a key. The second time it was the lock rod on the lock assembly itself. Needed a machine screw. My point is that neither failure involved the solenoid itself. You should be able to hear it click regardless of whether it's actually doing any work. As Yaofeng suggests, take off the back door panel. Six plastic quarter turn screws (flat blade) and two #25 torx (for the handle). Note that one is machine and one is sheet metal. Don't mix them up when putting that pull-down handle back on. You will probably have to remove the 3rd brake light to get to the mechanism if it has to be removed.
