I had the same problem a few years back. I caught the crack just when the grease started to leak. I cleaned the area and smothered the crack with GOOP. It wasn't even automotive GOOP at that time. the automotive stuff fuses even stronger. I drove it for a week, and no problem. I still have the original CV joints after 284K km on both sides with no indication of play or noise.
It'll get you out of a jam.
