This is definately one for the performance board, but I'll take a shot-
The reasons for two turbos instead of one is:
(1) two smaller turbos spin up faster than one large one
(2) Short runs are best, and on V-head engines, two turbos can provide shorter runs than one central turbo.
Since the Saab engine is inline, there is no advantage to two turbos to push air better.
So the only reason to put in two turbos is to spin up faster. That's why you would not put then in series - your turbo lag would be worse than with one. Putting them in parallel would be the only 'realistic' option.
That said, I don't think two turbos is worth the effort. Yes, it sounds sexy, and two *must* be better than one. It has to be spool-up speed, not pressure; you can easily get one turbo with enough capacity to blow the engine up, two is unnecessary for full boost. So it's just spool-up speed. What will it cost? Well, two turbos take twice the plumbing of one. I'll bet that trying to route the turbo lines from two will induce more loss than you gain.
It all depends on what you're looking to do. If you want maximum power, get NO2. The existing turbo can easily provide all the boost you need. Turbos are pretty tricky - I've seen plenty of turbo installations where the result provided less power than stock, and with worse driveability.
Now the finger-wagging part - If you really love your Saab, overboosting is a funny way to do it. You had better make sure the engine is in tip-top shape, because getting more HP out if it also removes life. If there are any weak spots, you'll find them quick. And speaking of weak links, there's the famous Saab transmission - they're not known for stoutness.
There, finger wagging done.
