Just switched from a '93 9000CSE to a '00 9-3SE. Some observations: The 9000 is a considerably larger car, with a lot more elbow room inside, much more useable storage space in the cabin and trunk, and tons more leg room in the back seat. It was also (IMHO) a more solidly built car. My 9-3 is awesome, it handles very well, has great pick-up, is actually much more fun to drive in twisty roads. On the highway though, where I did most of my driving with the 9000, the bigger car won hands-down. MUCH more comfortable, quieter, more solid and stable even at VERY high speeds. For an old-school fan like myself, the 9000 just had much more of that "Saab feel" to it than the 9-3. Heavy doors that close like a vault, solid road feel, big comfy seats that sit high off the floor, etc. Having said all of that (can you tell I miss my 9000?) the 9-3 is an absolute blast to toss around on back roads or go balls-to-the-wall on some twisty 2-lanes. Given my optimal choice, I would have bought a '98 9000CSE with the Aero motor, but for sheer cost-effectiveness, and because I felt that the styling of the 9000 was beginning to look a little "over", I went with the 9-3. I can't say that I'm disappointed. I just felt that since I plan on keeping this car for at least 5 years I was wiser to go with the newer body style and updated technology. I'll be missing my 9000 for a long time though.
