There is no connection between the operation of the clutch slave cylinder and the transmission, it is only attached to the clutch housing as a base.
There are two locations inside the transmission where end play is controlled by shims, the differential and input shaft. The roller bearings kind of ride on their shoulders and can't be too tight or too loose. Sometimes the shims stick to the baering and it would appear that there are no shims. End play differential,old case and old bearing 0.008 in.
If you give me your e-mail I send you the relevant pages. If you put it together the way it was, it would likely be ok, maybe a bit loose.
